SANDPLAY
Based on the non-verbal Jungian therapeutic modality created by Carl Jung’s assistant, psychoanalyst Dora Kalff, in the 1950s, Julz modernizes and elevates this therapy practice commonly used in child and adult therapy. By painting the sandbox pink and queering/modernizing various miniatures, figurines, and found objects, Julz creates surrealist fantasy worlds via mini installations in the sand and captures them with photography, sharing narratives of sapphic romance, surviving disabilities, kink, non-binary/trans issues, mental health issues, and their queer childhood raised in a religious right suburb.
